Mission & Vision
The Founding UUCC Planning Committee collaborated on the following Mission Statement in 2016, with the help of Rev. Jonipher Kwong, who was Congregational Life Staff for the Pacific Western Region at the time:
“We, the Unitarian Universalist Coastside Community,
are an ecumenical group of open-minded individuals
whose mission is to promote spiritual growth, mutual respect, and diversity,
as we work together for a peaceful, sustainable, socially just, and happier world.”
We held a Mission Statement revisioning meeting in November 2019, out of which, Bill Heavlin wrote the lyrics to the UUCC hymn, and Shauna Pickett-Gordon composed music:
“We of the Coastside, we care for our neighbors,
seek for more justice, and sing for more peace.
Open in heart and bringing more love,
we hope and we help and we grow here together,
embracing and laughing with joy and delight
in this world that we share, that we care for together.”
Our original UUCC hymn, “We of the Coastside,” was showcased in May 2020 and has become a regular item in our services. Transforming a Mission Statement into song is only one of the many innovations UUCC has created in its short 5 year history.
